Is photoshop damaging us?

There is no denying the power of social media and the immense influence it has on us, instagram in particular is known for it’s highlight reel portrayed by our favourite celebrities and also instagram influencers; but has the air brushing gone a step too far?

We live at a time where photoshopping our bodies using apps or actual surgery has become trendy and the norm. Although this has become normal for us to see and easily digested by us ,surgey and photoshop is often done by popular influencers and celebrities so not accesible for all. This means that it leaves both teenagers and even fully grown adults questioning the way they look, comparing themselves with images and aspiring to look like artificial versions of peoples bodies. They find themselves scrolling through this highlight reel of someone elses life questioning whether or not something has been photoshopped, left in the unknown and imprinted with these insecurities cut deep into their skin.

Although this strive for perfection and this podium that celebrities in the beauty industry have been placed on has been present for years its 2019 and some change and action is needed. We have seen a promotion of different and unique body types but is time to be honest and real with eachother. If you start by being truthful to yourself what you see on your phone or online cannot affect you. Bodies cannot be trendy we need to stop treating our bodies like fashion; one minute curvy is in and the next minute being skinny is the next trend.

Is fitting in even important?

Just begin by imagining a world where everyone looked the same, acted the same and thought the same things. PRETTY BORING right? We are all different yet co-exist together so well which shows the only person you should be fitting in with should be yourself- meaning always staying true to yourself. At the end of the day fitting in is only a short term strategy when being yourself pays off in the long term. You only have one life to live don’t waste it living for other people.

What is stress?

We have all felt the immense preassure that comes with well life- whether it is exams, meeting a work deadline or trouble in your personal life. But we have to understand the point where preassure and stress begins to negatively impact our menatal and physical health. Stress can cause you to work at a more optimum level up until a certain point but when it passes this point is when it starts to negatively impact your health. If there is one piece of advice I would give I would say that it’s never the amount of stress that is important but instead your reaction to the stress. Don’t fret about the little things and never stress over things you cannot change anyways.

Whether you forgot your cannon at home or just are not in the mood to lug around your heavy camera, just remember your iphone (or any phone in fact) is your secret weapon. When you want to capture that picture perfect moment don’t be afraid to whip out your phone- and after this post I guarantee next time you won’t hesitate to go all out with your phone.

Keep it simple– Don’t overcomplicate the picture, try keeping it simple and pick one subject for the image and use the empty or negative space around it to draw attention to that detail.

Change the perspective- Try shooting the same image from down below to capture more details from the foreground and create a unique perspective of an image.

Create depth- Try shooting pictures with a middle, foreground and background to have an image with lots of layers and different meanings in the image.

Lighting is key- Natural, bright lighting makes all the difference in making an photograph look more professional. It can take a photo from dull and drab to bright and euphoric. Try to shoot in an open space to limit shadows and increase the amounts of natural sunlight.

Manifestation- truth or a lie?

Manifesting your desires is 100% possible if you can distinguish what these goals are. Once you know this your subconscious gets to work reminding you of what you want until you manifest this goal. But remember you are co-creating with the universe and still have to work hard. Finally trust the process, I mean it is the law of attraction.

The pleated skirt- Styled with a graphic tee, bodysuit or dainty blouse; this versatile peice is dominating the streets.
